Ukrainian militants had to retreat from Novoazovsk under pressure of 2 columns of heavy military equipment of Russian army

This was reported by Nationals Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko during press briefing in Kyiv.

In general the town of Novoazovsk has passed under control of Russian militants with a number of settlements in Novoazovsk, Starobeshiv and Amvrosiivka regions.

They say in NSDC that on Wednesday at about 11.00 am Novoazovsk and its outskirts were shelled with ‘Grad’ systems from Russian territory.

After this at 12.30 pm there began an attack with 2 columns of military equipment consisting of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armoured personnel carriers that have entered Ukrainian territory from Rostov oblast in Russia.

Due to absence of heavy weapons Ukrainian border guards and guardsmen had to retreat. In order to save lives of Ukrainian soldiers and to regroup force and means the commandment ordered the forces of anti-terrorists operations, Interior Ministry and State Border Service to retreat.

According to data from Ukrainian militants both Russian columns entered Novoazovsk in evening yesterday. Russians’ armoured vehicles are also located in vicinity of Novoazovsk.

The ATO forces continue improvement of engineering and fortification equipment of checkpoints and strongholds in direction to Mariupol. Preventive measures on the territory of the town of Mariupol are also being taken.
