Today, on August 24, Ukraine celebrates its 24-th Independence Day.
On this day 24 years ago Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the Act on proclamation of Independence of Ukraine.
On December 1, 1991 90% of population voted for Independence in a referendum.
In Kyiv celebration began with laying flowers to monuments to Taras Shevchenko and Mykhailo Grushevsky. The ceremony was attended by President Petro Poroshenko and other officials.
‘March of Independence’ began at 10.00 am. On the eve of celebrations there were many discussion concerning the propriety of parade with involvement of military equipment. The result of discussion was a decision to conduct a march of servicemen. It is said that 70% of them are actual ATO veterans.
On this day many countries congratulated Ukraine. Radio ES prepared an original video in which foreign and Ukrainian Ambassadors as well as other prominent public persons of Ukraine singing the anthem.
Each of them sang a line from the hymn.
After singing the participants addressed to Ukrainians, they spoke of their love to our country and wished all the best to its people.
It should be mentioned that Ukrainian anthem is considered to be one of the most difficult to sing.
