KYIV, March 24 /Ukrinform/. Ukraine highly appreciates the support of the United States in guaranteeing its sovereignty and territorial integrity, but expects more effective measures against Russia in the context of the annexation of Crimea.
Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Vitaliy Yarema said this at a meeting with a delegation from the U.S. Congress, led by Senators Kelly Ayotte, Joe Donnelly and Congressman Stephen Lynch. The meeting was also attended by U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt, according to the government portal.
Yarema assured the U.S. side that Ukraine highly appreciates the support of the United States in guaranteeing the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said that the Ukrainian government was doing everything possible to resolve the issue peacefully. However, Yarema said that the signing by Russian President Vladimir Putin of an agreement to join Crimea to Russia caused serious concern.
“In this respect, Ukraine expects the U.S. Congress to take more effective measures against the aggressor,” the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers quoted Yarema as saying.
