Today about 300 members of volunteer Ukrainian corpus The Right Sector conduct meeting at presidential Administration in Kyiv.
The reason for this protest is encirclement of their base in Dniproptrovsk oblast by Ukrainian servicemen and demand to hand over their weapons.
Press secretary of the Right Sector Artem Skoropadskiy says that the volunteer corpus intends to continue negotiations with government in order to legalize them and join the Defense Ministry as separate military structure.
‘Nobody has got the right to take weapons from the Right Sector. The state didn’t give weapon to us. We acquired it in battles. So that state cannot take it from us. It is natural that there is order from Dmytro Yarosh and Andriy Stempitskiy not to give up weapon and protect the base’, – Skoropadskiy said.
Press secretary also underlined that fighters of the volunteer corpus aren’t going to abandon their base in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. ‘Nobody will enter this base. This is our base and weapon is ours’, – he said.
According to Skoropadskiy, the Right Sector wants to continue negotiating with government to become part of Defense Ministry.
‘We insist that we join the structure of the Defense Ministry’, – he said. The press secretary explained that in Defense Ministry they were offered to dismiss the volunteer corpus so that each fighter could sign in to military service individually.
Skoropadskiy informed that today the Right Sector conducts meeting at Presidential Administration in order to ask what happens around their base in Dnipropetrovsk oblast.
On night of April 28 sub-units of 95th airborne brigade and 25th paratroopers brigade put up checkpoints around base of the Right Sector in village of Velykomykhailivka in Pokrovsk region, Dnipropetrovsk oblast.
According to the volunteer corpus leader Dmytro Yarosh, the base was blocked without warning by paratroopers of 95th and 25th brigades. Young, newly mobilized soldiers guard these checkpoints and they firmly believe that the volunteer corpus Right Sector is going to seize Kyiv and overthrow the president.
These young soldiers stopped one vehicle of the Right Sector and demanded to hand over their weapon.
Dmytro Yarosh couldn’t talk to Head of General Staff Muzhenko immediately. However, Yarosh underlines it was obvious that encirclement was ordered by someone. ‘I talked to commandment of paratroopers with whom we have been fighting [against the enemy] for the whole year, and military commanders assured me that they wouldn’t turn their weapons against the Right Sector’, – Yarosh wrote.
The Defense Ministry of Ukraine informed that MP, leader of the Right Sector Dmytro Yarosh and head of Ukrainian Armed Forces Muzhenko had telephone conversation on April 28 and 29. They discussed implementation of previous agreements on cooperation and integration of Ukrainian volunteer corpus into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
