President Porosheko visited Mariupol and awarded soldiers for their military service
Spokesperson for Informational and Analytical Center of National Security and Defense Council colonel Andriy Lysenko reported this during daily press briefing in Kyiv.
As of September 9, 2014, despite the announced ceasefire, the situation on Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts remains difficult. The fighters violate the current agreements and continue to shell positions of Ukrainian armed forces in some locations. Ukrainian militantns adhere to the conditions of the truce and only start firing in response. Our servicemen fortify their positions and restore military potential of the troops.
The situation remains most dangerous in the areas of settlements of Donetsk (airport),Debaltseve, Severodonetsk, Shchastya, Fashchivka, Avdiivka. In particular, OSCE observers have registered the fact of violation of conditions of the truce in the area of settlement of Shchastya.
Since the announcement of regime of ceasefire (06.00 pm September 5 and up to 06.00 am September 9, 2014) terrorists and Russian militants have carried out 89 shellings of the positions of Ukrainian armed forces. In particular, yesterday there was shelling of checkpoints in the areas of settlement of Donetske, Komyshuvaha and Debaltseve.
During his working visit to Donetsk oblast President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko visited the ATO headquarters in the town of Mariupol [the town is currently under threat of attack of Russia troops]. When talking with the militaries from brigade of the National Guard, 2 battalions of territorial defense and border guards in Mariupol, the President mentioned that officers should be ready for defense. ‘We know our enemy and price of his words. I don’t have illusion concerning our opponent, but I do have hope’ – Ukrainian President said.
In his speech to the soldiers he President also mentioned the importance of supporting of fighting spirit and importance to understand the following: ‘Nobody will protect Ukraine except for us’.
The President presented state awards to 30 ATO soldiers of the National Guard, Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ministry of Internal Affairs. The ones who risk their lives to defend peace in our country have received orders of Bogdan Khmelnitsky of various degrees, medals ‘For courage’ and ‘For Military Service’, and also one award ‘Golden Star’ with the title of Hero of Ukraine.
