Militants in self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic pay salaries with invalid Russian rubles that are not accepted in exchange offices.
Crisis Center ‘Mariupol Defense’ informs this in Facebook.
According to the, in April and May pro-Russian fighters paid pensions and salaries in Russian rubles which turned out to be invalid.
The money was printed in 1997. The denominations have never been used in Russia and are not used today. In addition, exchange offices refuse to take such money because they are reportedly to be destroyed.
Denominations have sequential arithmetic numbers in ascending order and look like they have never been used.
Given this circumstance, banknotes cannot be exchanged for other currencies.
Meanwhile leaders of the self-proclaimed republic blackmail and intimidate all trade organizations and enterprises to accept face banknotes as payment for goods and services.
