Ministry of Foreign Affairs insists on resolving the future of the gas transportation system of Ukraine with Russian participation.
According to an UNIAN correspondent in Russia, this was said by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich at a briefing in Moscow.
“We have offered the Ukrainian side to talk about the problem of GTS, both in triple format Russia-Ukraine-EU, but the European Commission believes that this issue will affect only the relations between Ukraine and the EU. I believe that without Russian participation such issues by definition can not be resolved, “- said Lukashevich.
According to him, the share of Russian gas in the supply of transit through Ukraine “very important and without Russian factor Ukrainian gas transportation system, especially in the form in which it now is, would hardly be needed by anyone.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Cabinet has prepared a draft Law on Amendments to Some Laws of Ukraine on reforming the only gas transportation system of Ukraine (4116-A).
This bill proposes to allow companies from the EU and the U.S. to participate in the management of the main gas pipeline schemes and underground gas storage, keeping these facilities in the state’s property.
