Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia annexed the Crimea to prevent the arrival of NATO

According to an UNIAN correspondent in Russia, Putin said this at a meeting of ambassadors and permanent representatives of the Russian Federation.

‘Of course we were not allowed to leave the Crimean and Sevastopol at the arbitrariness of the militant nationalist radicals, we could not allow substantial limiting of our access to the Black Sea, to the Crimean land, Sevastopol, in the end, I think, NATO forces would come there pretty quickly. It would fundamentally alter the balance of power in the Black Sea,’ – Putin said.

He said, ‘In that case, everything Russia fought for since the time of Petro I would be deleted’.

We strongly emphasize that previously annexation of Crimea was considered to be an operation of saving of Russian speaking people in the peninsula from non-existing radical nationalists from Western Ukraine (Banderivtsi, Right Sector). There comes a time when Russian President reveals his real intentions concerning Ukrainian terrotory.
