UNIAN correspondent at NATO Headquarters: This was said by alliance secretary-general during his speech in Chatman House on Thursday in London,
He confirmed that NATO is now seeing a new Russian military build-up – “at least, more than a few thousand Russian troops deployed on the border with Ukraine, and we see military maneuvers in the region of Ukraine.”
“If they are deployed to close the border and stop the flow of weapons and fighters, it would be a positive step. But this is not what we see. I find it very sad step backward. It seems that Russia is considering further intervention,”- said Rasmussen.
In this regard, NATO Secretary General expressed confidence that if “Russia will intervene further, the international community must respond firmly”. “It means a deeper sanctions that would have a negative impact on Russia,” – he added.
