Today during daily press briefing in Kyiv spokesperson for Information and Analysis Center of National Security and Defense Council colonel Andriy Lysenko has informed and provided evidence of usage of prohibited weapon in Donbas.
Enemy uses prohibited cluster munitions for multiple rocket launcher systems ‘Smetch’ against Ukrainian militants. Lysenko provided photo evidence.
Photos of remnants of charges found in Donbas demonstrate marking of the manufacturer; they were produced on June 16, 2003 in Russian Federation.
Ukraine did not receive cluster munitions since 1991 [before it actually gained independence].
This suggests that the charges have recently been brought to Ukrainian territory together with ‘Smerch’ systems. In its turn, this fact suggests presence of Russian professional military personnel at Ukrainian territory. Terrorists could not have used ‘Smerch’ systems because it takes years to prepare specialists for this type of weapon.
Previously media reported that international human rights organization Human Rights Watch had said that forces of anti-terrorist operation had used prohibited cluster munitions in Donetsk at the beginning of October which had resulted in casualties among civilians.
On October 21 Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the accusation of usage of cluster munitions by Ukrainian Armed Forces.
