Memorial to commemorate soldiers killed in Eastern Ukraine has been opened in Dnipropetrovsk.
About 200 temporarily unidentified participants of ATO were buried at Krasnopilsk cemetery in Dnipropetrovsk. On April 20, 2015 a memorial in commemoration of fallen soldiers was opened there.
‘We’ve gathered here to honor memory of those people who defended their land, Ukraine, our peace, our families till the last moment of their lives,’ – Svyatoslav Oliynyk, head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast State Administration said.
He underlined that life of every soldier buried there is example of courage, loyalty, patriotism and love to Ukraine. ‘Unfortunately, names of many of them haven’t been identified yet. Our task is that every fallen fighter enters history of our country and becomes an example for present and future generations’, – Oliynyk said.
According to press service of the president, MP, Advisor to the president, head of parliamentary committee on Health protection, Honorary Doctor of Ukraine Olga Bogomolets participated in the opening ceremony.
This woman controls process of identification of bodies of soldiers who have been buried in this Dnipropterovsk cemetery.
The memorial of 4 meter height was made of Ukrainian granite. It was designed and financed by private entrepreneur Vladimir Nyzhnyk.
Currently 173 temporarily unidentified soldiers lie in ground of Krasnopilst cemetery. These servicemen came from many oblasts of Ukraine.
In general, since beginning of anti-terrorist operation 837 bodies of soldiers were delivered to Dniptopetrovsk forensic examination departments. More than half of them were recognized visually, more than 129 soldiers were identified after DNA analysis of their families.
