In mid January there appeared a fake video of fighters from Ukrainian Azov regiment. In this video 6 man dressed in military uniform stand holding weapons and address Netherlands people. They threaten to come to their country to bring terror in case Netherlands don’t vote for association with Ukraine.
In Ukrainian mass media that was quickly called a fake for a number of reasons. Press service of the regiment gave an explanation on this.
First of all, the video was not published at official channel of Azov regiment. Secondly, men that stand with their wide open eyes in front of camera don’t wear Azov chevrons. Their weapons look like a combination of strike ball with details of real guns. They also say in the regiment that voice of the speaker resembles to voice they have heard in previous fakes.
Azov press service also commented on text of the address which aims to demonize Ukraine in the eyes of Europeans.
‘There is no sense in burning the flag of European ally’, – they say in the press-service. – ‘However, there is sense for Russia which is ready to spoil international image of Ukraine in any possible way. And referendum appointed for April 6 is a very good possibility.’
The original video can be viewed here (no subtitles).
In response to this bad quality fake Azov regiment shoot their own video and posted it on their official YouTube channel. In this video they show how easy it is to make a fake.
They took several guys, dressed them in some uniform, hid their faces, gave them guns and wrote a mocking text. The ‘actors’ present themselves as fighters of self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic. They complain that their authorities pay them no money to feed their families that remained in Kazan, Ryazan and Taganrog. These are territories of Russia. In this way the authors of this prank mean to say that people who fight at Ukrainian territory are not Ukrainians at all.
Then the guy threatens that if they do not receive salary they will leave their military duty and go to Poland to gather strawberries in summer.
In this way they wanted to say that today making a fake it’s only a matter of 20 minutes of work. The regiment representatives called on mass media to stop reacting to cheap provocations.
The video has English subtitles, so enjoy watching it.
