Unusual painting has appeared in one of churches in Lviv, western Ukraine.
In addition to traditional paintings there are images of soldiers of anti-terrorist operation and heroes of ‘Russian world’ / vatniki who are waiting for judgment of God.
According to Priest Oleg Fedorenko the idea of such paintings belongs to students.
‘This is diploma thesis of students of Lviv academy of Arts. They came with this idea. I supported them. Not only 50 or 100 years ago people gave their life and health for Ukrainian freedom. This happened in the past year and it happens now’.
‘As well as sacrifice, charity, sacrifice for God, for Ukraine. This is illustration of what we have now. One could hear from elderly people that young people goes that wrong way. But the young people showed what they are. This painting is for those who will live after us’, – said the priest.
Vatniki is the nickname for Russians and those who support Russian position and aggression in current situation. This derivates from the name of quilted jacket or vatnik that mostly Russian people wear in winter.
