Ukrainian paratrooper has become first full cavalier of order of Bogdan Khmelnystky in history of our country.
On April 25 president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko awarded commander of first battalion of 79-th separate airborne brigade of Ukrainian Armed Forces Maksym Myrgorodskiy (call sign Mike, Майк) with first class of this order.
Lieutenant colonel Maksym Myrgorodskiy is the first full cavalier of this order since the beginning of anti-terrorist operation. This serviceman participated in withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Debaltseve.
He has been participating in anti-terrorist operation since May 2014.
Lieutenant colonel with call sign Mike commanded defense of Donetsk airport from November 14 to November 27, 2014. During this time due to his professional military commandment Ukrainian servicemen managed to occupy positions of strategic importance, hold them under control and cause significant losses to terrorists.
In 2014 Mirgorodskiy was awarded with 3rd and 2nd classes of this honorable award. Lately he received order of the first class.
Order of Bogdan Khmelnytsky has got three classes with the first one being most honorable. It was named after Hetman of Ukrainian Cossacks Bogdan Khmelnytsky. This award was established by formed Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma in 1995 to commemorate 50th anniversary on the end of WWII.
