More than 300 hectares of woods burnt in Chernobyl zone

Fires in Chernobyl zone began on April 28 at 12.45 on the territory of forestry ‘Chernobyl Forest’.

State Emergency Service informs this.

Fires spread across forestry territories in exclusion zone and near evicted settlements of Buryakivka, Rudnya-Illinytska, Glynka and Lubyanka. 320 hectares of territory burned in total.

51 vehicles and 305 people were involved in firefight, this number includes 39 vehicles from Emergency Service (including three fire planes and two helicopters) and253 people.

According to the official sources this morning at 06.00 am fires have been localized, process of extinguishing continues.

Emergency Service evacuated people from dangerous zone.

Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov also informed that fires were stopped at distance of 5 km from burials of nuclear waste, level of radiation is normal.
