April 11. The European Union hopes Russia will comply with its commitments as a supplier of gas, and Ukraine – as a transit country, Sabine Berger, spokeswoman for European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger, told reporters on Friday in Brussels.
“We expect that Russia will adhere to its obligations as a supplier. And we expect that Ukraine will fulfill its transit obligations to the EU,” Berger said.
According to her, today the EU underground storages contain 37 billion cubic meters of gas. She also noted that the EU has developed an effective response system to prevent gas supplies cuts.
