Summary of the most important events for the last 24 hours as presented during the press briefing of NSDC on July 30, 2014
These and the following news have been reported today during the press briefing by NSDC Information centre spokesman Andriy Lysenko. Maps of the situation in the ATO zone as of July 30 and July 29 are added below.
During the last 24 hours terrorists shelled checkpoints and positions of Ukrainian armed forces 25 times. Also there was shelling of sub-units of State Border Service ans Armed forces close to Ukrainian-Russian border. In particular the checkpoint Marynivka was shelled with mortars, the villages of Amvrosiivka and Stepanivka was shelled with ‘Grad-P’ systems. The system ‘Grad-P’ is a portable modification of volley fire systems the firings of which are not detectable by satelites.
The situation at Ukrainian-Russian border remains tense.
Yesterday at 10.35 pm the border guard unit detected a group of armed terrorists that were trying to break through the frontier to Russia. They intended to reach the village of Avilo-Fedorivka where Russian forces had left heavy military equipment for them. The frontier guards entered into battle and didn’t permit terrorists to cross border. The remnants of group of fighters had to leave the border. But on the other part of frontier a group of fighters with 7 tanks managed to cross Ukrainian border and entered the territory.
Russian Federation continues to increase the number of its troops close to Ukrainian border. There have been recorded movements of the column of military vehicles close to the border. Also the came an echelon of tanks (up to 50 units) at a distance of 20 km from Ukrainian border.
