Today Ukraine celebrates Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation for the first time.

This date was established by presidential decree ‘On Measures to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in Europe and the 70th anniversary of Second World War in 2015’.

As in many countries of Europe, red poppy has become symbol of victory day in Ukraine.

At 11.01 pm there will be held ‘The first minute of peace’. It is planned to inflame bowl ‘Fire of Glory’ and launch balls of peace into the sky. The number of balls will be equal to number of days in the Second World War.

Almost 7 000 civilians killed by Russian aggression

At midday Parliament of Ukraine gathered for solemn meeting to honor those killed in Second World War. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko participated in this meeting.

President dedicated his speech to the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazism in Europe, place and roe of Ukrainian people in WWII.

He also mentioned current conflict with Russian Federation. Poroshenko provided data confirmed by UN. According to this organization, aggressive external policy of Russia Federation has already cost lives of 7 000 civilians in Ukraine. About 1 000 people are missing in Donbas.

President also gave number of losses of Ukrainian Armed Forces – more than 1600 soldiers.

However, different sources give variable data about Ukrainian military losses. It is believed that real losses are bigger than official numbers.

We remind that so-called anti-terrorist operation in Eastern Ukraine began in mid-April 2014 and lasts until now. Self-proclaimed republics supported by Russian Federation keep violating all possible agreements and ceasefire regimes.
