Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe has condemned Russia’s military intervention into events in Ukraine

Department of Policy and Communications of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has informed this to the journalists.

In particular, according to the statement from October 16, 2014 during the 27-th session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe (CoE Congress) there were debates on ‘Separatist tension in Ukraine and neighboring countries’.

During the discussion most of delegates expressed support for Ukraine, its territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, they condemned actions of Russian Federation.

‘The Congress condemns any form of Russian military intervention into Eastern Ukraine and all other forms of pressure on Russian neighbors’, – the document says. The security of the continent is seriously threatened due to violation of international norms and principles by Russia. Military separatism that is supported by mercenaries and foreign troops is in contrary with everything that the Congress supports.

They concluded in the Congress that the safety of the whole continent is under serious threat due to Russia violating international norms.

‘What happened in Crimea (Ukraine), in Southern Ossetia and Abkhazia (Georgia) and in Transnistria (Republic of Moldova) and what is happening in Eastern Ukraine is diametrically opposite to the regional Europe why intend to build’, – the declaration says.

They also say in the Congress that ceasefire that has been agreed in Minsk has to be effectively implemented and it should be followed by political dialogue to give Ukraine possibility to restore its territorial integrity.
