Active battles near Donetsk on June 3

On June 3 situation in Eastern Ukraine was marked by significant escalation. Russia-backed fighters began active offense near Donetsk at Maryinka.

OSCE registered preparations for the battle

Before that OSCE SMM registered movement of heavy military equipment in the conflict zone. In particular, on June 2 OSCE representatives saw movement of military truck that carried 122 artillery system.

In the morning of June 3 OSCE registered movement of two T-64 tanks, column of one APC (armored personnel carrier), three military trucks and two T-72 tanks. They also spotted movement of 7 T-64 tanks and self-propelled artillery of 152 mm caliber.

OSCE representative mentioned that Donetsk People’s Republic authorities refused to explain fact of movement of heavy military equipment in their territory.

Losses on both sides

Battles for Maryinka near Donetsk began at dawn and lasted for almost the whole day.

According to Advisor to the president, volunteer Yuriy Biriukov informed that terrorists lost at least 24 fighters – this is the number of registered corpses in Donetsk morgues and hospitals. 91 men got wounded. Biriukov underlined, that the data is not accurate yet, number of losses can increase soon.

As of night of June 3 it was said that Ukrainian side lost 3 servicemen, 31 were delivered to hospitals with various wounds. This data is not accurate yet.

According to Biriukov, the enemy used mortars of 82 and 120 mm caliber, artillery of 122 and 152 mm calibers and multiple rocket launcher systems BM-21 Grad.

‘We answered with everything that is allowed by Minsk agreements and several times we answered with what is prohibited to answer with’.

Head of general Staff got decree from the Supreme Commander to use weapons banned my Minsk agreements in case situation does not stabilize. By strange coincidence the situation stabilized almost immediately.

Active battles ceased at 05.45 pm, however, complete silence wasn’t achieved.

The following night wasn’t calm as well. Fighter continued to conduct shelling at night. In Mariupol sector they shelled Shyrokine with mortars, grenade launchers and small arms.

In Luhansk sector they shelled Ukrainian positions near Donetske, Novotoshkivka, Stanytsya Luhanska and Krymske.

In Donetsk sector terrorists fired at Pisky, Gnutovo, Maryinka and Novotroitske.

Village of Shyrokine in Mariupol sector was also shelled in the morning.
